Remote Learning Provision
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day:
EYFS & Key Stage 1 |
3-4 hours per day |
Key Stage 2 |
4-5 hours per day |
Accessing remote learning
How will my child access any online remote learning you are providing?
The school has, for some time, used a variety of online platforms and digital resources.
These include:
- Seesaw (this is for ongoing communication; setting of activities and work; feedback and ongoing assessment);
- ZOOM (for ‘live’ sessions for an individual to watch an English and Maths lesson live in the classroom);
- White Rose Maths/ TT Rockstars / IDL (for the Mathematics curriculum);
- Spelling Frame/ Spag.com/ Collins Connect (for the English curriculum);
- Oak Academy/ BBC Bitesize
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote learning?
We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote learning:
Should a family require to loan a suitable device to enable online learning, please contact the Headteacher on the email head@hatfieldheath.essex.sch.uk.
Each family will be required to sign an acceptable use agreement to cover the period of the loan.
Printed materials, pupils books and reading books can be collected from the school on an appointment basis. Parents or carers should contact the school via office@hatfieldheath.essex.sch.uk or via the class email address.
Work completed on paper can be dropped off in the school foyer in the ‘drop boxes’ available.
How will my child be taught remotely?
We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:
Our remote teaching will include the following approaches:
- live contact via ZOOM to ensure engagement and to address concerns/ queries/ difficulties;
- telephone calls home where there has been limited engagement;
- printed paper packs produced by teachers (e.g. workbooks, worksheets);
- textbooks and reading books pupils have at home;
- commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subjects or areas, including video clips or sequences;
- long-term project work and/or internet research activities.
Engagement and feedback
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
All children are expected to engage in online learning and should complete the work set by their teachers.
Parents and carers should plan for routines and support children in accessing the online activities and lessons.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
Teachers will check on engagement in learning on a daily basis. This will be done via the ZOOM sessions as well as the work being uploaded via Seesaw or work being sent into school. Should there be no engagement for 2 days, the class teacher or a member of the office team will contact the parent directly via telephone or email.
Should your child be too unwell to engage with the work being set, then please ensure this is communicated to the school.
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:
Feedback will be provided via the following means:
- Daily response to work uploaded on Seesaw (this may take the form of one word confirmations that work has been seen or longer, more detailed comments as appropriate)
- Online platforms, where the facility exists, will allow for ongoing checking and assessment.
Additional support for pupils with particular needs
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:
For pupils with SEND, the school can offer additional support via regular ZOOM calls (a designated member of staff will lead these for different pupils) to support in accessing suitable learning. Parents should contact their child’s class teacher to discuss such support.
For pupils in Reception and Year 1, there will be greater focus on play-based learning and activities. Phonics will continue to be taught daily using pre-recorded videos.
